Sorry, I popped out earlier, didn't know you wanted to play infantile games. Just about your level I suppose.

Surely we will not let the day go by without having alot of discussion / evaluation on what we believe were 2 of VDW`s favourite races.

Barney,

Your latest thoughts on the weather / going will be of interest.

Guest,

It would very interesting to know your views on the days events.

Early thoughts,

I have a pretty strong view at this early stage that Shadow Dancing will be taking the Oaks.

Again, my early thoughts on the Old Newton Cup are that I will be backing 2 in the race.

Cheers,

good morning determined and all

there were light showers last night, but its still a bit softer than good, its a nice morning and it doesnt look getting any worse.

statajack will go mad at you opposing the ratings,
i wonder what happens when there is such an anomaly as in that race.

i think thats the book race.

ONC

all runners are running for more in prize value than their last outing.

there is no roushayd here today.

so i will be looking at form horses.

Mellow Park, I accept is top on ability and the RHR certainly suggest she`s well clear.

Split Second figures, I accept show conflict.

Do we agree that it should be a 2 horse race, ie - SD and MP.

What does the form say ?

In my opinion SD has the better form HOWEVER are there factors against,

- the trends say horses placed in the Ribblesdale don`t win here

- SD has had 3 races in reasonably quick time and her Ascot run was a hard race; will she bounce ?

- MP certainly didn`t have a hard race last time and should be that much fresher.

*** 1/2 return if backing them both should the 2/1 and 9/4 be availible.

Options,

- back both; not considered value for me

- leave race alone

- invest on one of the 2 if one has firm opinion.

*** at present I`m undecided. Maybe clearer conclusions elsewhere today ?

Cheers

Barney/Determined

Re the Oaks I have mellow and Shadow as C/F horses in that order and preference is for Mellow.I have a concern re lack of pace and believe Shadow was trained for Ascot. Mellow should benefit from the break as fillies tend to do this time of year.
Re ONC I have Takamaka as the C/F horse. He would not have picked up a penalty if he had won Sunday and that race should have sharpened him up nicely. My danger is red carnation who is improving with every race and i may well dutch the two.

All the best for today

Graham.

Your point re` SD is a very good one and I have to agree that MP will be that much fresher.

That said, Mr Tregoning is one hell of a trainer and SD must be telling him that she`s holding her form.

Pace - I again agree that there could be lack of pace. SD has shown she can quicken.

Good luck with MP.

ONC - for me Takamaka Bay has been plotted for this. Heavily supported to win last year but there were clearly problems.
Barathea Blazer is in my opinion the other capable of winning here and I will be backing both horses.

Cheers,

Barney,
Ratings like PM and RHR are just a guide. If their figures support your choice it just gives added confidence to the selection. No harm in going against them if you feel everything else looks right.

Anyone wanting some thoughts on this race might like to pop over to

http://www.successfulbetting.co.uk/todays_info.htm

maybe its not pure VDW
maybe its not VDW at all
but you might learn something about value and not betting when you ain't getting it!!!

Well done to those who got it right.

This filly will only go one way. Onwards and upwards. Her card is well and truely marked and she`ll be giving me a good pay day come the seasons end.

Well I doubt the man himself would have selected Sun Bird from 3lbs out of the handicap. Can't get them right all the time. Hard luck Determined with Barathea Blazer. Could win a nice handicap though before season's end.

If the man was a back-fitting charlatan I guess he could have used it as an interesting example for the students, and why not? There must be reasons why it won. I look forward to the post mortem from the fans.

B. Blazer seemed to hit a flat spot before finally running on strongly. Thats racing.

*** I did have a saver on the winner mind. It was so obvious wasn`t it; so many hidden factors which aren`t really there ***

"There must be reasons why it won"

Well yes, it went out in front and stayed there!!!

Serioucly tho' I noticed the first 4 home were from the bottom half of the handicap so perhaps the going was more 'holding' than 'good to firm'?

cheers IMP

BARATHEA BLAZER should of won!!! the only reason that sunbird won the race, was because the Jockey ignored the trainers instructions.
Tony.

PS The instructions were to hold sunbird up.

A difficult day all round for vdw types, soft ground in early July, doesn't help, but an informative day nonetheless.
I wonder what M.Pipe, had to say about F.Lynch's ride on Miss Fara,at Leicester 3.10 had to be seen to be believed.I bet he doesn't ride her next time. She appeared to be the class horse.
