JiB: I use a trainer based method and I also used to take sire/sibling stats into consideration, not to the depth that you do, but for some races it was important. I only looked at the progeny strike rate for the previous year, regardless of distance, going, etc, this gave an overview of inherited potential that was far more useful than the VDW ability rating. Unfortunately the new RP layout deprives me of the facility.

These horses were found using different approaches and i am just eager to learn.I dont wish for anyone to hand it on a plate to me but just give me a few examples that i can study.I do achieve those percentages using those other methods but van der wheil racing methodology fascinates me and i just hope some day that i can go the whole way and unravel the 6 horses i mentioned.

Is TROUBADOUR a VDW selection?


( I've got a craze for animals that won at the distance in the last month: this would bring in Pentecost and Secret Charm).

Would I be right in saying that the 225 is not vdw because the pigin the oinkment is Attune (111) and is outside the 5 in the forecast?

Also, when vdw talks about the forecast which one did he mean? i.e live market, sportinglife? why do we tend to use the racingpost? the markets tend to be formed using to the racing post prices. why? is it because of the bookmakers invlovement with the racingpost?

I think you're right to say that many bookies use the RP to price up, though they also have a "tissue" that's hard to get hold of.

In fact, I've seen them at Ascot, pricing from Coral's ad (in the RP).

Betfair also seems to kick off with RP prices about the principals.

Of course, nowadays the bookies control the Exchanges and we find there isn't a lot of difference at the head of the market.

VDW horse:

I rejected Attune bc she hasn't won at this level at the distance ( she won a £19.5K at 7f).
