Well that`s an invitation I can`t turn down, at least you found the Capital letter function.

What`s with this "DON`T YOU START" business, have you got something on your mind Barney ?? Or is it another bloody crossword puzzle ?

dont doubt you for a minute, but without even seeing it i would have to say that there are such fundamental issues disclosed by vdw(and many others since) that i doubt its content.

did vdw get into a discussion with him?

if he did, will you post up his replies?

Determined.

I tried to ask the same question about starting prices. I made the mistake of asking on the other board. Apart from the first answer I didn't get any sensible replies. I asked the question because of some of the remarks made by Guest, and after reading a couple of chapters in Peter May's book. I think Barry Dennis summed it up tonight, when he said the markets moved when the FACES started to play.

Ability Ratings

It is only the method vdw suggested later, I am not happy with. I do agree you have to have some way of rating a horses ability, can't see that that can be done just using the penalty value of a race. As Statajack and Crock both pointed out, there was a winner of a £21,000 race who beat nothing in the way of class to win.

Max.

I've never heard of the chap responsible for the articles you refer to. You say he was promoting a book or system. Was it not just a good way to get noticed? His fame and system seem to be very short lived, but I expect it helped the sales. If people responded to all the rubbish that is written, nothing would ever get done. Some of the postings on this board would take a life time to answer.

111.

There is nothing wrong with my sense of humour. I can only speak for myself, but I must admit to smiling at some of your postings. I do wonder though if you would be more at home on a forum for frustrated comedy script writers? I do believe in the expression "live and let live," wish a few more on here did.

Be lucky

I would like to try to find the Connerchie material you've mentioned, and would be grateful for any further guidance you can offer which might facilitate my search.

In your post which first mentioned BC, you referred to a series of articles, then in the later post you referred to books. I've searched the British Library catalogue, both for Connerchie and the title you gave, without success. This suggests that what he wrote were articles rather than books, but alas is not conclusive because many specialist booklets are published and not copied to the British Library, despite the legislative provision that they should be.

Are you able to be definite as to whether the material was a series of articles or a booklet? Also, have you by any chance the exact date in March 1983 when the ad. mentioning the BC material appeared?

Thanks in anticipation.

Determined - The track has little to do with determining if a horse is in form. Burrough Hill Lad was not considered in form for Wayward Lads third KG victory due to two of his last three runs. Wayward Lad had shown form in all of his runs that season.

The point about handicaps and non handicaps is that the weight factor generally plays a much bigger part in the former, especially when establishing who is really in form.

Max - I would have thought that the fact Connerchie was advertising his articles/books for sale in The Sporting Life would tell it's own story. It is quite amazing how much unsubstantiated material is allowed advertising space in the racing press, especially these days. Surely anyone following all the get rich quick schemes and systems advertised most weeks should be raking it in ?

Money seems the only explaination.

Mtoto - Several times you have answered your own questions regarding how to measure ability. the figures are never taken at face value.

Hello Mtoto

My my, 4 lines this time, (was it you who called me a slug ?) last time I was only deemed worthy of a measley two.

Good fortune has smiled on me and never demanded humour in exchange for my daily crust, bloody good job too although a laugh and a joke have always been my travelling companions.

It`s nice to hear from you.

WE must do this again sometime, don`t want to out stay my welcome, cheerio
