I`ve no doubt many factors determine whether to class a horse as in form or not.
How important is the previous starting price(s) of any given horse. Eg - Strombolus had been favourite the 3 times prior to falling at Cheltenham. He won on all 3 occasions and in the latter 2 races according to the Raceform f/c he was supported from 9/4 to 7/4 and 6/5 to 5/6 The manner of those 2 wins were certainly `classy` weren`t they ? The sign of a rapidly improving horse who judging by the Raceform comments was travelling very well in the Sun Alliance before falling. He then turns up with no weight in the Whitbread returning at 7/1 ( well placed in the f/c ). Waffle over. How high a priority is the `previous` S/P factor ? Comments will be very welcome. Cheers, |

hi determined,
so many questions, so little time. Never the less, these are the very questions that will not be answered. these are the part's you must try to work out, if its told you will skim over it instead of understand,as happens all the time on this thread. there are lots of cases where this pattern is repeated in vdws race examples, but there are a couple of underlying factors, favs on its own isnt much use as can be seen in stroke of six. find out why favs are favs, but dont follow the crowd.THEY know much more than most, how do the odds just appear everyday?in my opinion thats why we should not stray to far from first five, and with good reason. dig deep my friend.......no deeper than that! |

Barney you are one mealy mouthed arrogant b******. First of all let me say that I am not in the slightest bit interested in the claptrap you post on here. But Determined obviously is. He asks a question and this is the crap you post in reply. A while ago you asked various questions on mathematics, an area you are obviously challenged and had the temerity to complain when I suggested you learn the basics before asking such infantile questions. Now you come up with the above, what a parasite you are.

has anybody read a series of articles published in the spring of 1983 by brian connerchie publicly denouncing the works of van der wheil as nothing more than backfitted ramblings of a disgruntled old cynic.
the core of the articles seemed to concentrate on the numerous examples all 83 of them where the "good thing"(vdw's words)was duly turned over.of the few examples where a horse he did select did infact win (the ones discussed on this thread)it can be taken as fact that he infact dutched three and even four many times to claim his 80% s/r. it has to be said that there does seem to be some ill feeling between connerchie and vdw as he not only rips his way of betting apart but also launchs a personal attack on vdw by sharing all the gory details of how vdw was warned off for 4 years in 1964 culminating in the great man drinking himself into an early grave and ending his days in a run down bedsit in paris eeking out a meagre living on the back of his books. |

Barney, to make things a little more even on the grammer level and not to always give Jimmy a ten yard start, do you think you could use the Capital letter function occasionally. Especially at the beginning of a sentence, or with your salutation. It just makes it more easy on the eye, always assuming you haven`t been over doing it with the eye drops, wink wink.
It`s just an aesthetic thing really, sorry to interupt, please carry on. 111 PS. .Have a look at Guests posts. His are a good example. |

the sporting life carried the ad for many of connerchie's books(march 83)the one i have seen is entitled "truth behind the hype"andf the publisher was neptune.the author seemed to be a roger cook of the gambling world and almost all of his work concentrated on weeding out the c.davey's of the era.at the same time connerchie was promoting his own method"system solution 1"based on how a horse finished in the final furlong of its previous run.
