What makes you say that?
are there any examples before pk? I think hotform hit the nail on the head in letter 1. Even VDW identified that WIN(brighton) new his onions. Can you answer all his questions? |

My PC has been fixed, and I have sent you an Email, (At least I think I have!).
Barney VDW was successful for more than 30 years, before he wrote about Prominent King, WHY??????? If you need to find the correct answer, then surely the best place to start is by asking the right questions! |

VDW said to tread very carefully, or words to that effect, when horses were up in class and distance.
Probably something to do with readying them, marking their card etc. |

To understand, you must read the form the VDW way, Ballycassidy's recent form showed that a sharp 3m on g/f ground was unlikely to be a sufficient test, which is exactly how it turned out.
There was another example of this today, in the 2.15T, where Ideal Du Bois Beury was undoubtedly, (IMO) the best horse in the race, and under different circumstances would have been a very good bet. However, checking his previous form, his best performances were over longer distances on stiffer tracks, in races run at a good pace, so unless he set out to make it all today, he was unlikely to reproduce that form over today's c/d. He ran exactly as expected, and was beaten by a horse he had murdered previously; as to why he was placed here today, it could have been tuitional, or to get a decent mark, only MP knows the real answer, but, the way he was placed and ridden, made it obvious that today's race was unimportant in the greater scheme of things. Hope this sheds some light on the matter. Regards. |

Barney - I haven't looked at any racing again today and in fact I haven't had a bet since Saturday. Not entirely down to nothing being strong enough, but I have other fish to fry just now.
I'll be looking for the weekend though. |

It is not my intention to lose you, neither am I going to serve it up on a plate; the best advice I can give at this stage, is to forget all your pre-conceptions for a while, and look at it with the wide-eyed innocence of a child. This will not be as easy as it sounds, but hopefully, it will guide you in the right direction.

I have no pre-VDW conceptions.
I have said before you need all factors. Although it can be seen that virtually each winner on the card has one or the other. I hope you have found what your looking for and I hope its the same as I have found. There is a complete VDW picture that goes on and on and on and on. |

Hello All,
hope you and yours are well and happy. Hows about looking at the 2.25 Newbury. 2.25 Newbury H'c Hdl 2M 0.5F class 87 Consistent Ambry(3), Rolling Tide(4), Agitando(5), Firestone(5) C/F list Warjan(53), Firestone(43), Native New Yorker(37),Agitando(32) Warjan - has put aside last years form. Distance, going and course should suit. In form. Maybe. Firestone - In form. Distance and course should be okay. Question marks about the going. Not a FTO winner. No. Native New Yorker - In form. Going okay. Seems to want more of a test. No. Agitando - In form. Distance and course okay. Wants good going.A bit out of its league. Has won FTO but for a much smaller prize. No. Selection - Warjan and at forecast odds of 11-1 I think this is a good bet. All the best hedgehog |

Maybe I've missed something but Ambry ahould be a consistency rating of 11 not 3, his form is 9-11. Taking the top six in the betting I had Perky's Pride in the top 3 for consistency, recent class and ability. The problem is that his form is Irish form, and their prizemoney is generally bigger than here for lower grade races. His recent 3 runs are not too inspiring so I'm giving it a miss. Native New Yorker keeps tripping over bthe hurdles, not a good sign. Rolling Tide has shown potential, but much to prove. One potentially interesting performer is Seixo Branco, off the track for a season, but running creditably in some much more valuable events before that. Overall it looks a bit too open to me. Rob |

Hello Rob,
Ambry was outclassed when 9th behind Haditovski so if you ignore that race and look at the previous one you get a consistency of 3. All the best hedgehog P.S. Didn't Valerio do well. h |

Re Ambry I calculate recent class average of last three races, so it acts as a cross reference to consistency. Still each to his own method, if it works stick with it. Don't quite know what to make of Valerio's finish. Looked to me as if the est just stopped, but he's quite lightly raced and probably capable of further improvement. Rob |

Wish I had seen that earlier guys only just got back in.
I went for native new yorker, when he hit the hurdle two or three out, I think the jocky lost his bottle and eased him home. How did we miss valerio? Guest, do me a favour, have a look at lucky bay and tell me if he was a good thing before I crack up. johnd, hope you followed mr margson today he paints a pretty picture. |
