Now make a real mental effort and try to develop your (by no means implausible) idea as to what VDW meant by Probability into something operational, ie how do you think he assessed the odds at which he was prepared to back a selection that had passed his Ability, Form and Capability considerations?

Don't be so bloody supercilious -

"
quote:
To a large extent - the art of successful punting is dependent upon the ablity to appraise odds and never go against them
"

When was the last time that you "Realy" read "VDW" ????

The private thread may not be 'your' board in an ownership sense, but you have certainly made yourself responsible for recruiting and advertising.
It is a fact that most of the membership came from this thread, and it is also clear that you now intend to 'leech' on the RSUK board.
If it is the fact that I find your conduct disgusting, devious, and totally disloyal to the 2 boards that makes me 'sad' then long may I continue to be so.
I am surprised that some of the more honest members of your private thread tolerate your despicable machinations. It certainly does them no favours to be associated with such behaviour.
Hopefully, Gummy, and the moderators of the other board, will one day see the light, and give you the treatment that your actions richly deserve.

Another richly intellectual contribution.

Johnd

What makes you so sad is that you have become so fixated by envy (largely of Guest, and no doubt exacerbated by the fact that no one seems to have invited you to join the VDW board) and frustrated by your own conspicuous lack of success (on the "80% thread") that you are almost unable to contribute to this thread in any kind of positive way, but instead now largely confine your posts to bitter little gibes which throw more light on your psychopathology than how VDW worked.

You ask how he assesed the odds at which he was prepared to back - and I deliberatly left it overnight to see if "The Penny would Drop" even into a biggoted little mind like yours !!! --

jc !!! - cant you even understand what is there on the page in front of you ????

He "Spelt it out for you" - in the examples in the article, and then told you the answer "In plain English" --

quote:
The spade work is all complete and it can be seen there is a possible winner in each race, but once again the odds must be weighed. Providing a reasonable price can be obtained

Little Owl will be taken because it is a racing certainty.
Sunset Christo will also be taken as it is almost a certainty,

but the rest will be left alone.

Why ? go back to the begining and you will find it all tied up with temperament and odds.

Everything that you need explained about VDW is contained within " Spells it out" if you cant understand it then I am sorry for you You must be suffering from a pretty severe case of Dyslexia !!!!

You dont need to go back 20 or more years --

Just read the Bloody article !!!

We can only speculate, but from what was written he did not appear to advise the need to form an oddsline in the way some do today. Possibly, having assessed the race in depth, he formed a view such as that one was a probable winner, two were possible dangers, add one for the unpredictable and you get a minimum acceptable odds of 3/1. Nothing to stop anyone following whatever works for them, as long as they do not ignore the odds versus likely cash return.

regards,
Robert

hi tc. ok got my pdf prog working but not tuned yet.

i posted elsewhere that I thought thsat the fc was the key. vdw did say not to look away fromthe head of themarket. and i diofid it strnge that even when the form as genreally understood does not fit the fc odds yet the winner is usually in the first 3 in fc.

I have asked this before too.how are fc odds calcualted? and by who? surely if you want to no whats going to win ask a bookie?

ps.
did any one see the prog on bbc2 lastnightabout millionares? dyslexia rules ko!

Hi Nessie

Didn't see the prog - but can guess the theme !

The need to overcome a disadvantage builds character, determination - and an ability to focus !! Hence a lot of Millionares started out badly disadvantaged in life - Backbone that needs to be developed in order to overcome this - assists them in other ares of life - hence their success !!

Re Betting forcasts - I understand that there is some sort of Central Source but from where I dont know ! - I am sure that someone on the forum has the info - I would be interested to know as well !!

Best of Luck

I believe RP forecasts are produced individually, by the person who writes the spotlights for that race, though the bigger bookmakers usually employ two or three people to produce their early prices, and form an amalgam from their forecasts.
Not certain if that is all, but have seen the occasional ad in the racing press for odds complilers.
Bookmakers tissues are provided from a central source, though they now lean heavily on the betting exchanges.

The 'tissue' is a sp forecast specifically for the on-course bookmakers.

Hello Tuppenny,
BBC 1 Ceefax, the tissue prices are on the same pages as the Newspaper Selections I will try and post them up later.

Just as an aside, I believe they are called 'tissues' as the prices are a 'cold start' for the market!
