I'm not interested in horses like Denver

no, and if you aren't interested in something someone posts you don't half keep posting crap to make sure no one discusses it.

I wouldn't mind you posting if you knew what you were talking about but I know from what you post that your knowledge base is small, the same with JohnD who doesn't even recognise a horse rising in class.

A lot of talk but a complete lack of the basics of racing with NO capacity to learn.

I think you just like posting, those with little to say do seem to over post.

it's good comedy value i suppose

Mtoto,

Thanks for the reply and the kind words.

County Member was in fact Co Member, I couldn't even get the name right.

My reference to the abilty rating being just a guide in this particular instance was due to the fact that,

Castle Warden had won just one hunter chase in Ireland several years ago whereas Co Member had won 3 x races in his career to date, 2 of which were in higher class (value) than that of CW's one win.

If taking the above at face value one would have to question the power of the ability rating HOWEVER I'm sure the a/r has other uses which I will one day work out.

Hi Ectoo

We VDWers look at class in a very singular way, i.e. prize money. This may have something to do with our introduction to horseracing.

I have mentioned before that I was an unfortunate victim of Mr. Davey... (which probably explains a lot!)

How does a non-VDWer do it?

I doubt it is as simple as race class (A,B,C etc).

Cheers,

BlackCat Smile

Me too - but - I wanted to learn fast, as I had no previous knowedge ! - tho it was expensive - I took in Davey - "Tongue in cheek" - and gained a valuable insight , and found some Shortcuts .

I no longer "Pay" him - but I do talk to him on the phone - "Mainly about VDW "- about which - he is a "Fount of Knowledge " - Smile

Hi TC

To be fair, I thought he was an excellent judge. He certainly did get a high strike rate, although his claims of 80% with odds up to 10/1 was laughable.

I also found him to be a very likeable person too. I met with him and spoke to him on many occasions. But he did let me down... on several occasions. Do you still listen to his Private Syndicate line?

No - I found that it buggered up my own judgement of my selections - so I no longer listen to "Any" - "Tipster" !!

I like the Guy and think he is one of the hardest working people I have ever come across !

He realy knows how to "Work the Crowd" !

Have also "got pissed with him" Smile

Great - "Conman" !

you can't help but like the "best" !

even when you know that they are "Ripping you Off" - Big Grin

A very interesting race,my views are that Royal Auclair is the Class/Form horse, and a Roushayd type selection,as well.

I am surprised to see Joly Bey so short in the forecast, and the French horse is a possible spanner in the works, but I don't think so.

Martin Pipe, provides the usual head scratching problems, and Therealbandit is difficult to assess,as since winning on this card last year, hasn't ran badly apart from last time out.

Royal Auclair a wager for me today.

Thanks for the encouragement.
The problem as always is having something useful to say, but I'll stick around.

Pipedreamer,

What do you make of the Charlie Hall winner?

Nicholls might be feeling a bit sorry for the Ex as well, I remember him doing a similar thing to this one time last year.

How i see the race is that the Therealbandit looks very well placed to win,

Time of year -2/5 40%
weight carried approx -3/5 60%
Pipe in Dec -19% (massive loss on all runners)
Pipe @ Chelt Hcp chases - 98 points profit
Going -3/4 75%
Dist -2/4 50%
Jock/train -27%
Horse wins to runs -7/14 50%

Im not saying your selection wont win or any of the others but on paper they look up against it

Good luck

While I agree with your summary re Royal Auclair, the following quote by P Nicholls hardly inspires confidence:

Top-weight Royal Auclair, third in the Hennessy, had been 12-1 fourth favourite for the Welsh National with sponsors Coral but Paul Nicholls said: “I don’t want to run him under top-weight in the Welsh National if the ground is soft.
This is a tough race but it is good ground and I will then possibly leave him for the Pillar and see how he gets on there - he is in no man’s land a bit.”

nice one rab

investor,
in fairness i didnt post a time of race, but the post was about 16hrs before the race.
slight egg on my face for the post,11/2-3/1 2nd 10 mins steward enquiry,i wont give my comments on the race because they will be slightly biased, but i will say the result stood yet the jockey of the winner got a days ban for the ride
