you rightly say that posters who have shown interest in vdw, would be a long way off getting to the bottom of these methods, without the help of guest,i also think that you also have been very benificial on this thread,it was your two winners at thirsk that got me on the right track,so i believe you deserve some credit so thanks very much.i hope others on the thread understand your g.hall posts it will help them sort the wheat from the chaff.take care and be lucky

what a good summing up of the important races.

i got 10/11 which i thought was a good price and then the beautifull thing behind the counter worked it at 11/10. ha! ha! ha! I ran out.

I am very pleased that my summary was almost identical

CHAZ

I had a look at them last night I am ok with the first three but the fourth is leaving me more than a little puzzled.

Setting aside G. Hall (although it might be interesting to ask why Baronet was preferred to Petronisi) lets move on to F. Chester.
As Chris B pointed out, his letter of 19/4/79 is very illuminating and so is vdw's reply of 24/5/79. No mention of the ability rating yet either, so just how has F. Chester "gone a long way towards the ultimate conclusion"?
Also in his reply vdw states "It does not follow that a good thing always shows from the mechanical procedure, this can only be determined from a close study of form and associated aspects." This is a very interesting phrase, particularly "always shows." Does this mean that potential good things (subject to confirmation via form study) can be spotted merely from the mechanical procedure? And all without the ability rating too!
Changing tack slightly, although its still connected, looking through vdw's later work, I can find nowhere where he exorts us to look for the class/form horse. Look for the "winner in the race" on a number of occasions but "look for the class/form horse"? The actual article "The class/form horse one most likely to win" is very illuminating, especially the last section which mentions Dark hansel's race. Our class/form fans might just find it worth reading again.
He shows that a lot of races fall to the class/form horse when all aspects are considered -but then again, a lot of races dont fall to the class form horse. If people's investigations put them onto the class/form horse all well and good, it can only give them more confidence in their selection. But just why are we at the stage now that everybody feels the need to string a list of class/form horses together, surely finding the "winner in the race" is more important? Its not always the class/form horse!
BTW if anyone has problems identifying the class/form horse why on earth are they bothering with that race? Why not show temperament and wait until they find a race where they can identify it without a problem?
There was 1 race today where there was a clear winner in the race, it was also (as is often but not always the case)the clear class/form horse.
regards,

Good morning,

i only end up with question's today,

Will islington get the trip? Will master links handle the ground?

Charlie Bates has had a Very Strange preparation for this.

i might have a 50p EW treble for fun.

good luck everyone.

The only thing you`re likely to find in "Private Topics" is the price of pies. There`s steak pies, pork pies, chicken pies and for afters there`s the choice of mince pies or apple pies.

Now which one takes your fancy?

Statajack - I agree it is important not to ignore the first numerical picture, as demonstrated yesterday where various class/form horses had factors against including consistency. At the prices available Bandari represented a good bet, I honestly thought he would be around 4/7 or 8/13.

Today at York the 2.20 has Kazzia as the clear class/form horse and this is one I will be looking to back.

The 2.55 Ebor shows faults in Mana Dargents form and I make Dawn Invasion the class/form horse, but not a bet for me.

The 3.30 has Mister Links as the class/form horse and the merit rating backs this up. This is another I will personally be backing.

The opener shows conflict. Norton on highest ability is a form horse but not at this sort of trip. Kirovski was dropped LTO but just failed to collect and the lightly raced 3yo Leadership will probably prove very troublesome to all. It's a race to leave for me.

Guest,
While Kazzia is the class/form horse there are a couple of slight negatives, although its done nothing at all wrong. I'll watch that one I think.
Id be interested to know how well you fare with applying the methodology to 2YO races and sprinters as both these categories have provided the majority of my losers. I also note there are very few examples of 2YOs or sprint races running through vdw's examples, a coincidence?
That said, Mister Links is definitely the "winner in the race" and is very tempting.
regards,

i also backed kazzia today, and was quite shocked she got beat, but after looking again i feel the ground played a major role in the demise of K and also mister links, which i left all three wins on s/gs not for me afterall consistent form relates to a lot of things, which i,m sure you,ll agree.

Well done Swish on your place bet today. I`m not sure if you qualify for a free pie you may have to use some of your winnings if you`re hungry. It all depends whether or not you`re on good terms with the Pieman.

For the record, I have to buy mine. Besides, I`ve tasted the pork ones, they were horrible.

VDW
It is my humble opinion that you are a self opinionated TWAT.

I believe that your "GOD" Guest (who is a good guy) is affecting your "SAD"judgement.
You know F*** all, about vdw,but are trying to manipulate GUEST to spill the beans, which I hope he won't.
You adopt a superior attitude,in an attempt to force contributors to inform you as to the workings of the "GREAT VDW".
So F*** ***.
